iPhone Text Reply With Your Pebble
There was some exciting news from Pebble Today for you iPhone users! You get the ability to reply to texts with your Pebble Watch.
Users who have the Pebble Time, the Pebble Time Steel, or the Pebble Time Steel Round will be able to reply to text messages either by voice dictation, or by sending a pre-defined message.
Currently, it is only users on AT&T with a post-paid account, but Pebble is working hard to extend this functionality to other carriers. This is no mean achievement given that Apple is very closed with their operating system. This makes Pebble the first smartwatch (aport from the Apple watch) to provide voice and text replies to iOS.
To get the new ability, simply update your iPhone Pebble app to version 3.4 or higher, then update the Pebble Time software to version 3.7 or higher. If you aren’t automatically updated to the new version of the Pebble OS, select Menu->Support->Update Your Pebble (on your watch).
You can then set up actionable notifications inside the iPhone Pebble app to get started, and set your text replies.
Incidentally, text messages you send through your Pebble will not appear in the iPhone’s messages app, as they are sent as SMS messages directly through AT&T. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as other carriers come online!
